Surprisingly, raw onions are also a great source for vitamin C and phosphorus because they contain an antimicrobial agent that kills bacteria that leads to gum disease and tooth decay. While they may leave a bad taste in your mouth, they are an excellent addition to your daily salad.

Watery Foods

To help cleanse your mouth from harmful bacteria in between brushing and flossing, choose watery foods, like apples. This helps to reduce plaque and tartar that cling to the teeth. However, be sure to rinse your mouth with water afterward because they can leave you exposed to enamel-eating acids. Whenever possible, it is also best to drink water over any other beverage choice.

Antioxidants

Antioxidants are one of the top ways to fight bacteria in your mouth the prevent gum disease. Not to mention, they help protect against cell damage in tissues throughout the body. In addition to apples, choose berries, grapes, nuts, and beans.
