Preventive Dentistry in Murphy
Your smile needs regular care to stay healthy. With routine maintenance, you can look forward to spending less time in our office.
One way to protect your smile is by following a good homecare routine. We recommend brushing at least twice a day, flossing at least once (preferably before bedtime), and rinsing with a good antibacterial mouthwash.
But a good homecare routine isn’t all you need to have a healthy smile. We recommend visiting our Murphy dental office at least twice a year for routine checkups. With these checkups we can help you stay on top of your oral health. There’s more to preventive dentistry than just checkups, though.
Dental Exams & Teeth Cleanings
During your visit, your hygienist will use advanced tools to help you clean areas of your smile that can be hard to clean with a simple toothbrush. We'll also use your visit to take X-rays of your mouth and complete a full oral exam. At the end of your visit, Dr. Najari or Dr. Nguyen will discuss their findings with you and recommend additional care, if necessary. If you have questions about the plan they recommend, don't hesitate to let us know. We want our patients to feel 100-percent confident about the solution we propose.
We understand that some patients, especially younger patients, need extra protection against cavities. That's why our Murphy office is proud to offer dental sealants. This simple but effective service puts a thin layer of fluoride coating between the vulnerable chewing surfaces of the patient's teeth and the harmful bacteria responsible for causing cavities. Treatment with sealants only takes a few minutes but provides years of protection.
Medical professionals have been using X-rays since the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. With X-rays, we can see things that can't be seen with the naked eye. This in turn allows us to provide patients with improved care.
As great as traditional radiography is, it comes with a few drawbacks. The first of these is the radiation exposure for patients. Traditional X-rays also have to be developed with harmful chemicals. And finally, they have to be stored somewhere.
All this helps explain why our Murphy dental office has invested in digital radiography. With today's digital advances, the images are not only clearer, but patients are also exposed to 90-percent less radiation, making the process safer. What's more, the images we capture don't have to be developed, and we can save them to our computer instead of physically storing them somewhere.
Adults aren't the only ones who need to see a dentist every six months. Dr. Najari or Dr. Nguyen are proud to serve Murphy's youngest as well.
If you struggle with teeth grinding while you sleep at night, wearing a custom-made nightguard will help you protect your smile and manage your symptoms.
If you or someone else in your family plays sports, a custom-made athletic mouthguard is an essential piece of equipment. Visit our office to have one made for you.

Periodontal Disease Treatment
Periodontal disease, which is also known as gum disease, is one of the most pervasive oral problems today. According to some estimates, half of all U.S. adults have some form of the disease. What's more, advanced cases have been linked with serious health problems to the rest of the body. That's why our Murphy dental team is committed to offering quality periodontal therapy. With a treatment plan designed just for you, our goal is to help you reverse (if possible) or manage your condition. With proper care, we can help you enjoy better health and well-being again.
Most of the time, you never see an emergency coming. That's part of what defines an emergency. If you have a dental emergency, we invite you to give Murphy Family Dentistry a call. We can also provide tips for managing your emergency until it's time for you to arrive. Call us today to report your emergency and reserve your appointment.
