How Invisalign Works

Invisalign treatment involves the use of a series of clear plastic aligning trays that are made to gradually shift your teeth into place. Dr. Nguyen or Dr. Najari will examine your smile and then take special images and impressions of your teeth to create your custom-made aligners. You’ll wear each aligner for about 2 weeks before switching to the next one in the series. You will wear your aligners between 20 and 22 hours a day, only removing them to eat and maintain oral healthcare.

Treatment time will typically take between 10 and 18 months. Once your teeth are completely aligned, we will give you a retainer to wear to ensure that your teeth are permanently shifted into their new position.

The Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign aligners come with many benefits, but primarily they give you a way to straighten your teeth without anyone noticing. The clear plastic design allows you to navigate through your personal and professional lives with confidence. And, because the aligners are made with smooth plastic, they’re incredibly comfortable to wear and easy to talk with. This also means that you won’t have to worry about brackets and wires cutting or catching the inside of your mouth.

Additionally, Invisalign clear braces are completely removable, allowing for you to eat all of your favorite foods without worrying about damaging your braces. Just make sure to brush your teeth and rinse out your aligners before putting them back in your mouth.

Lastly, Invisalign’s treatment time is typically shorter than traditional orthodontics. Treatment with braces usually takes at least 2 years, whereas the Invisalign process can be completed in as little as 10 months.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The cost of your Invisalign treatment will vary based on the severity of your misalignment, how committed you are to wearing your aligners, and other variables in relation to your oral health. The best way to receive a precise estimate is to schedule an appointment with one of our dentists. They will evaluate your smile, your oral health, and the degree of your misalignment to give you a fair estimate. If you’re interested in receiving Invisalign clear braces, contact our dental office today to get started.

What Factors Influence the Cost of Invisalign?

Apart from the severity of your particular orthodontic problem (i.e. overcrowding, spaces between teeth, improper bite alignment), numerous factors can determine how much you can expect to pay for your treatment. No two people are the same, so we cannot designate a firm price for Invisalign until you’ve been evaluated by one of our dentists.

To provide you with the closest estimate possible, we will incorporate all these factors and provide you with a clear price tag during your initial consultation:

  • How many clear aligners you will need throughout your treatment
  • The severity of your orthodontic problem at the start of treatment
  • The need for a top or bottom aligner or both
  • If you require any pre-orthodontic dental work (i.e. tooth extraction)
  • The retainer you’ll need after treatment is complete

Why Invisalign is Worth the Investment

As you contemplate whether to go with Invisalign or not, it’s important that you spend ample time weighing the pros and cons. While you might assume your cosmetic dentist in Murphy will advocate for Invisalign no matter what because of the higher price tag, this is simply not true. In fact, not everyone is capable of using clear aligners to address their orthodontic problems. If our team does not believe you will benefit from this type of treatment, we will most certainly recommend an alternative solution that will get you’re the results you need and deserve.

However, if the choice is ultimately up to you, there are reasons why Invisalign is a good investment in your time and money, such as:

  • Your confidence will receive a boost, as will your appearance
  • Your treatment time will be significantly less than if you choose to wear traditional braces
  • You’ll experience less irritation in your mouth during treatment
  • You’ll enjoy greater flexibility while wearing your aligners because you can eat and drink the foods and beverages you love
  • You’ll have a greater chance of maintaining better oral health

How to Pay for Invisalign

While it is possible for your dental insurance company to pay for some or all your orthodontic treatment, others include exceptions within their coverage stating that only regular braces are eligible. Some insurance plans have no coverage for orthodontic treatment of any kind! We’ll be happy to review the details of your policy with you to determine your coverage. At Murphy Family Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry, we proudly accept most dental insurances and will happily file all your claims as a courtesy.

Some of the insurance companies we accept include:

  • Ameritas
  • BCBS
  • Cigna
  • Aetna
  • Delta Dental
  • Guardian
  • MetLife
  • United Healthcare
  • and many more!

If you are uninsured or need help paying the remaining balance after filing with insurance, we can help you enroll in CareCredit, which is a third-party financier who offers low-interest and no-interest payment plans. This allows you to still receive the care you need without breaking the bank!

Maintaining Your Smile with Vivera Retainers

After investing your time and money into Invisalign (and seeing your beautiful new smile first-hand), you naturally want to keep your teeth in their perfectly aligned positions for as long as possible. To help make that happen, we proudly offer our Murphy patients Vivera retainers! Read on to learn why wearing a retainer is important, how Vivera retainers work, and more.

Why Do I Need to Wear a Retainer?

Orthodontic relapse is a phenomenon in which your teeth begin to drift back to their previous places. Unfortunately, studies have found that upwards of 50% of orthodontic patients will experience this to some degree within 10 years of completing their treatment. One of the best ways to prevent that from happening is by wearing a retainer! As your teeth “set” in place, we recommend wearing your retainers as much as possible. Don’t worry though – they are incredibly discreet, and it won’t be long until you can transition to wearing them solely at night.

How Vivera Retainers Work

Vivera retainers are custom-made for each patient, ensuring they fit perfectly and comfortably. Wearing them consistently will help ensure that your teeth stay in their properly aligned positions and don’t drift out of place over time. The good news is that the high-quality material they are crafted from is 30% stronger and twice as durable as other leading retainer materials, so you can use it in the short and long-term!

Keeping Your Vivera Retainer Clean

At your final Invisalign appointment, our team at Murphy Family Dentistry will give you your Vivera retainers and review how to take care of them. Fortunately, this doesn’t involve anything too complicated. If you’d like, you can use the Invisalign Aligner Cleaning System. Otherwise, you can use a soft-bristled toothbrush, some room-temperature water, and a small amount of toothpaste to gently clean each surface. Of course, you will also need to implement a few additional best practices, like not eating with your retainers in and storing them in their designated case when you aren’t using them.

Invisalign FAQs

Choosing to get a straighter smile with Invisalign in Murphy is a big decision, so it’s likely that you have a few questions that need answering before you’re ready to commit to a treatment plan. We want you to feel 100% confident in any treatment you choose here at Murphy Family Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry, so we’ve gathered some of the most common questions we get about Invisalign below. Of course, we’ll be happy to answer all your specific questions during your consultation as well!

Does Wearing Invisalign Aligners Hurt?

This is probably the question patients ask most often as they begin Invisalign orthodontics in Murphy. You may experience mild discomfort when switching from one pair of aligners to the next, but this usually disappears within a couple of days. One thing you will not have to worry about is a bracket irritating your gums or a wire poking your cheek when you wear Invisalign.

What Makes My Teeth Move with Invisalign Aligners?

Invisalign aligners move teeth through the targeted placement of controlled force. However, the force is not only controlled, but also timed. So, only certain teeth move during each stage of treatment. That is how the proper alignment of your teeth is assured.

How Often Will I Need to Come in for Orthodontic Checkups?

Every four to six weeks is usually the recommended span of time between visits when you’re wearing aligners. For Invisalign in Murphy, wearers appreciate the convenience of quick and simple appointments to make sure their treatment is moving along as planned. And you’ll never need to schedule an extra visit because of a broken bracket or wire!

How Do I Take Care of My Invisalign Aligners?

Keeping your aligners clean is very important. Dry saliva and plaque buildup on your clear braces are a perfect breeding ground for harmful bacteria and staining particles. Rinse them every night and brush gently with your toothbrush. There is also an Invisalign cleaning system that will help to keep the aligners clear and odor-free.

Will My Speech Be Different with Invisalign Aligners?

At the start of your treatment with Invisalign aligners, you may have a slight lisp. But you’ll soon adjust to having the aligners in your mouth, and the lisp will go away.

Can I Chew Gum While Wearing My Invisalign Aligners?

No. Gum can stick to the aligners and cause them to bend or break, so remove them if you’re chewing gum.
