Komen Race is an international program that raises awareness for breast cancer. With roughly 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men in the U.S. diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, we are proud to support such a valuable and life changing cause.

Susan G. Komen Organization

The Susan G. Komen organization started in 1982 after Nancy G. Brinker made a promise to her sister to raise awareness to end breast cancer. Now, over 30 years later, it’s a global movement that has become one of the world’s largest nonprofit sources for funding the fight against breast cancer. As a result of the organization, more than $2.6 billion has been invested into researching breast cancer, community health outreach programs, and advocacy programs in more than 30 countries. This amazing organization has helped to reduce breast cancer death rates by as much as 34 percent since 1990. In addition, the 5-year survival rate for early stage cancers has increased from 74 percent to 99 percent. Murphy Family Dentistry is proud to support this movement to end breast cancer with our sponsorship of a runner in the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure.

Our sponsorship will help to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer screenings, educational programs and community services to help those who are in need. With a commitment to our community, we are empowered to help your family, friends, colleagues, and neighbors with the fight for a breast cancer cure. Through heightened awareness, early detection with screenings, and improved access to treatment and breast health services, we’re working together to provide people with a greater chance of survival.

The race is in support to honor those who have been lost from the disease. The runners and walkers are people of all ages who walk to save lives. In 2016, it’s estimated over 246,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 61,000 new cases of noninvasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. In addition, it’s estimated 2,600 cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in men in 2016. Thanks to programs like the Susan G Komen organization, breast cancer incident rates have drastically declined since 2000. We are honored to do our part to fight breast cancer.
