A dental emergency can happen when you least expect it, causing severe pain and discomfort, because let’s face it, nothing is worse than a toothache. We will work quickly to find the cause of your discomfort with the gentle touch you need. As an emergency dentist in Murphy, we are here for you whenever an emergency strikes.

Treating Dental Emergencies

Dental emergencies can take many forms and can be caused by various issues. Often, trauma can lead to an injury, while other times an emergency occurs due to an underlying cause that has been left untreated. No matter the reason for your discomfort, we are here for you to treat the most common dental emergencies

Broken Teeth—A broken tooth can happen as the result of trauma or a weakened tooth can eventually break. If you’ve had a tooth break, you need to act fast to restore the tooth while decreasing the risk for additional complications. If you’ve had a tooth break, try to find the broken pieces, apply a cold compress to reduce pain and swelling, and contact our office immediately so we can restore the tooth.

Knocked Out or Dislodged Tooth—A tooth can be knocked out or dislodged due to trauma. If you act fast, we can help save the tooth by implanting it back into the socket, allowing it to thrive for years. If your tooth has been knocked out, try to reinsert it back into the socket. If that’s not possible, you need to keep the tooth moist by placing it in a cup of milk or water. Since time is off the essence, contact us right away for treatment.

Abscess or Unexplained Pain—A dental abscess is a common cause of extreme dental pain. If left untreated, the infection can kill the tooth, as well as spread to surrounding tissues, causing additional damage. If you’re in pain and notice a pimple-like spot near a tooth, call us right away for treatment. While abscesses are a common cause for unexplained pain, they aren’t the only cause. Unexplained pain can be caused from various reasons, such as objects stuck in the gum. If you’re experiencing unexplained pain, we will work to find the underlying cause to relieve your discomfort.

Lost Crowns or Fillings—Often, temporary crowns and fillings are used to protect an area while you wait for the final steps of a procedure to be completed. If you’ve had a temporary crown or filling fall out, contact our office to replace the crown or filling.
