About General Dentistry

General dentistry is comprehensive dental care. And no other family-owned dental practice has offered such comprehensive services in the Murphy Texas area for as long as Murphy Family Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry. Our dentists, Dr. Masoud E. Najari and Dr. Jacqueline T. Nguyen are pleased to provide insight into some of the most commonly asked questions.

Question No. 1: What are some of the services that you offer as a general dentist?

As general dentists, we provide all the services you need for a healthy mouth. Oral health also helps to support a beautiful smile. To maintain oral health, we provide an array of diagnostic and preventative services and treatments. With regular examinations and preventive care (such as routine cleanings by our hygienist), you can avoid the conditions that damage your teeth and gums. These conditions lead to the need for treatment. We prefer to protect and prevent.

Question No. 2: I always brush and floss well. Why do I need to maintain regular check-ups?

Good job on maintaining good oral care at home! While home care is essential, professional care is, too. You should not have one without the other. Some substances, such as hardened plaque, cannot be removed with a standard toothbrush and floss at home. They can only be removed by professionals like our dental hygienist. These professionals have the necessary tools to effectively remove stubborn plaque (or tartar) and the expertise to do so precisely and painlessly. Also, during these visits, we check the condition of your teeth and gums. We can spot problems you may not realize you have, as your teeth may look and feel fine. Yet, potentially destructive problems may be lurking beneath the surface. Oral issues are notoriously silent in their early stages. We have the expertise and technologies to spot them and to intervene before they threaten your oral health.

Question No. 3: My tooth hurts! Will I need to have my tooth pulled?

Extractions of essential teeth are generally a last-resort procedure. There are many potential alternatives to preserve your teeth. These alternatives range from fluoride treatments to build-up enamel and address sensitivity to dental restorations like fillings, inlays, onlays, crowns, bridges, implants and root canal therapy. Recommended treatments depend on your needs and the underlying cause of sensitivity or pain. If we cannot save the tooth through procedures like root canal therapy and a crown, our team will discuss options for its replacement promptly. The loss of a tooth damages the appearance of the smile, causes bone loss, and can affect your chewing function.

Question No. 4: General dentists just care for the teeth, right?
