Durable and dazzling crowns and bridges to preserve complete, healthy, and stunning smiles
Dental crowns are a fixture of many dental offices. And, in our team’s skilled hands, Murphy Family Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry crowns are incredibly strong and pleasing to the eye. One of the things that makes crowns so common at dentist’s practices in Murphy, Texas, and beyond is their versatility. Our dentists, Dr. Masoud E. Najari and Dr. Jacqueline T. Nguyen may even use crowns as part of a dental bridge or an implant-supported crown or bridge designed to replace teeth.
What exactly is a dental crown?
Crowns are custom crafted caps that are made to fit on top of weak or damaged teeth.
What materials are used to make my crown?
Our dentist will carefully select from various materials including ceramics like porcelain and zirconia or metals like gold. Dr. Masoud E. Najari and Dr. Jacqueline T. Nguyen will select the type of material that is best for you depending on your needs and situation.
Just how versatile are crowns?
Crowns are used to strengthen or reinforce a vulnerable tooth. They are also appropriate for teeth with extensive decay that cannot be corrected with just a filling, or a fractured tooth. We can replace big fillings or worn fillings with crowns. Crowns are vital in restoring a tooth after it has been preserved with a root canal therapy. Crowns may even be placed for cosmetic reasons such as to cover up a very misshapen tooth or discolored tooth from a tetracycline stain. Lastly, crowns anchor a traditional bridge and restore an implant to replace a missing tooth.

What happens during the process?
Getting a crown is a simple process. First, the decay is removed or a layer of your tooth is removed to make room for the crown to fit. Digital impressions are taken of your tooth and surrounding gums. This information is transferred to our dental lab. Their ceramists will create a crown to your unique specifications. Murphy Family Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry will place a temporary crown to keep the prepared tooth safe while the permanent one is being made at the lab. During the second visit, the permanent crown is fixed securely to the tooth.
What happens if I need a bridge instead?
We understand that not all teeth can be saved. If you have a missing tooth or need to have an extraction, you may be a good candidate for a traditional dental bridge. The bridge is anchored by neighboring teeth. These adjacent teeth are crowned to ensure the bridge fits securely, just like natural teeth . The bridge includes at least one replacement (missing) tooth and the two supporting anchor crowns. If a traditional bridge is not the best fit for your needs, Murphy Family Implant and Cosmetic Dentistry offers implant supported crowns, bridges, and implant supported dentures. We look forward to discussing the many options to restore or replace your teeth and complete your healthy, beautiful smile. Call our Murphy, TX office today at (972) 808-5023. Book Now.
