So, let’s say you’ve finally decided to get dentures. You’ve made a great choice to restore your smile with these lifelike prosthetics! That said, don’t expect to get your new grin right away. To ensure they work well, your dentist must first follow the proper steps to make them. Furthermore, how long that process takes depends partly on you and your situation. To learn more, here’s a summary of what to expect when waiting on dentures in Murphy.

How Long Will It Take to Get My Dentures?

Despite what you might’ve heard, a denture isn’t a one-size-fits-all product. Each one is custom-made to suit a unique patient. Therefore, you can’t get an exact time for how long it takes to receive your own.

That said, a rough estimate is possible. Dentists usually take between six weeks and three months to make dentures, though this period sometimes runs longer. The timing will ultimately depend on your dental situation.

Factors That Impact Your Denture Wait Time

You can expect your wait time to change based on two things: Whether you need a tooth extraction and the denture creation process itself. You’ll likely get your prosthetics after three or four appointments if you don’t get extractions.

Your Need (or not) for Tooth Extraction

You’ll have to wait longer if you get your teeth pulled first. After all, the extraction sites could need several months to heal. Only once they’ve recovered can your dentist start making the dentures.

Making, Fitting, & Placing Dentures

The process for making a complete set of dentures takes a few steps.

First, your dentist will take an impression of your mouth’s ridges. They’ll then send said impression and your bite measurements to a lab that’ll fabricate your dentures.

While the lab is at work, your dentist will have you come in for a few follow-up visits. Doing so helps them adjust their mockup of the final product, which ensures you receive quality prosthetics.

After the adjustments are made, and the lab work is done, the dentist will place your completed dentures. They shouldn’t cause discomfort, but you’ll need time to get used to wearing, eating, and speaking with them. From there, you’ll have the benefits of a new smile!

As you can see, when you get your dentures in Murphy will vary. Still, you can trust that you’ll receive a great boost to your smile!
